CIGE has collected large quantities of physical and electronic evidence as well as information and analysis. They are processed, preserved, analysed and archived in physical and digital facilities in accordance with CIGE’s evidentiary standard, in order to support justice outcomes.
These materials are processed using an evidence management system (EMS) that ensures efficient retrieval and accurate analysis. Each item is registered along with its confidentiality and security conditions including verification of informed consent. Wherever possible, original evidentiary material is digitized and uploaded to CIGE’s EMS, making it searchable for investigators and analysts, while the original material is placed within CIGE’s physical archive.
The EMS is owned and operated by CIGE and is tailored to its legal mandate and context. It guarantees the uninterrupted chain of custody, forensic integrity and reliability of data with multiple layers of protections and controlled access. The EMS features multiple analytical tools commonly used in international criminal investigations, as well as case building and management functions alongside a tracking system for requests for assistance from international law enforcement partners.
CIGE also implements strict safeguards to protect the evidence it has collected and preserved, including maintaining, monitoring and updating information and cyber security standards.
